Sam Edozie Submits Transfer Request to Southampton

Sam Edozie has submitted a transfer request to Southampton, insisting he must be allowed to move on before Tuesday night’s deadline after what he describes as a series of blocked exits.

The 23-year-old winger issued a strongly worded statement on Instagram, revealing he has received “multiple offers” from clubs across Europe and accusing Southampton of making any potential deal too difficult to complete.

“Last summer I had the opportunity to move elsewhere, but the club did not allow me to leave,” Edozie wrote. “The same happened again in January. This summer, there have once again been multiple offers from clubs across Europe.”

The frustration runs deeper than just failed talks. Edozie claims Southampton’s financial demands have effectively priced him out of a move.

According to his statement, the club have “requested as much as 50% of any future transfer fee, which has made those opportunities extremely difficult to pursue.”

Southampton have been approached for comment.

Limited minutes, short career

Edozie joined Southampton from Manchester City in September 2022, arriving as a highly rated wide player with pace and one-on-one ability. Since then he has started 29 games and made a further 57 appearances from the bench in all competitions.

That, in his view, is not enough.

He said he was not getting “the minutes I need” at St Mary’s and stressed the urgency of securing regular football.

“A football career is short, and I believe it is important I now have the opportunity to go somewhere I can play regularly, continue to develop and make the most of my career as a player,” he added.

The former England Under-20 international has already stepped away from the south coast this season, joining Belgian side Anderlecht on loan for the 2024-2025 campaign.

Now, with the deadline looming and his stance made public, the question is simple: will Southampton finally cash in, or hold their ground and keep an unhappy winger on their books?
