RB Leipzig Signs Marc Guiu from Chelsea Until 2031
RB Leipzig have moved decisively in the market, prising Spanish centre-forward Marc Guiu away from Chelsea and tying him down on a contract until June 2031.
The transfer ends a summer of noise around the 18-year-old’s future. Clubs across Europe circled, sounded out his camp, weighed up offers. Leipzig’s pitch won.
“Joining RB Leipzig is exactly the right step for me. The club made a real effort to bring me here and, in our talks, gave me a clear idea of the role I can play in the team," Guiu said, outlining why the Bundesliga side beat the competition.
From Barcelona prodigy to Premier League traffic jam
Guiu’s rise has been fast and jagged in equal measure. He broke into Barcelona’s first team at just 17, a classic La Masia story that quickly drew attention from abroad. Chelsea swooped in 2024, heralding his arrival as a major coup.
Then reality hit.
Chelsea’s swollen squad left the teenager fighting for minutes. Starts in the Premier League were rare, opportunities scattered. When he did play, it was often away from the domestic spotlight, where he impressed most in the Conference League and hinted at the striker he could become.
A loan to Sunderland was supposed to offer clarity and rhythm. Instead, it lasted less than a month, cut short as Chelsea’s own injury problems dragged him back to London. The stop-start nature of that spell summed up his time in England: plenty of promise, little stability.
With Chelsea needing to trim numbers and raise funds to stay on the right side of financial rules, a permanent sale became less a surprise and more an inevitability.
Leipzig’s plan, not a panic
Inside Leipzig, this was not an opportunistic late grab. Managing Director for Sport Marcel Schäfer made it clear Guiu had long been earmarked as a key piece in their next attacking rebuild.
“Marc is a very good fit for our RB DNA with his intensity, pace and incredible work rate. He’s relentless in his work without the ball, while he’s also a real presence in the box and is always looking to get at goal," Schäfer said, spelling out exactly why the club moved so firmly.
This was a targeted strike. Leipzig’s recruitment team had tracked Guiu closely since he left La Masia, watching his adaptation to English football, his European outings, his response to setbacks.
“We’ve been in contact with him for a long time and have followed his development very closely, so we’re delighted that he has chosen RB Leipzig. We’re convinced he has the quality and mentality to make an immediate impact, while he still has plenty of room to develop further,” Schäfer added.
For a club that leans heavily on high-intensity pressing and vertical attacks, a mobile, hard-running No. 9 who lives inside the box fits neatly into the long-term blueprint.
A calculated move into the Red Bull pathway
For Guiu, this is not a gamble. It is a calculated reset.
After stints at Barcelona and Chelsea, he now steps into a club that has built its reputation on turning raw potential into finished products. The Red Bull pathway is well known: arrive young, play early, grow fast.
"RB Leipzig have shown time and again that young players can develop here at the very highest level. RBL are also an ambitious club with high aspirations in every competition. I want to play my part in achieving those goals while continuing to improve every day," Guiu said.
The uncertainty of London gives way to a clear role in Saxony. Leipzig believe they have found their next focal point. Guiu believes he has finally found a home that will actually play him.
