Richarlison Expresses Frustration Over Vasco Loan Block by Tottenham

Richarlison has laid bare his frustration over a failed return to Vasco da Gama, telling supporters the move collapsed because Tottenham refused to approve the loan terms he wanted.

Speaking directly to Vasco fans in a personal Instagram video, the Brazilian forward revealed he had turned down other proposals in order to engineer a short-term switch back to Rio de Janeiro.

“Other offers were made to me but I made it very clear I wanted to join Vasco until December,” Richarlison said. “Unfortunately, Tottenham set a limit on the loan, which is why it didn’t work out.”

The message was emotional, almost confessional. He talked about Sao Januario, about Barreira, about home.

“I think I’ll be at Sao Januario soon, and in Barreira, and you know how fond I am of you all,” he continued. “One day I’m going to make this dream come true; it’s my dream, my grandfather’s dream, and my family’s dream. I’m speaking from the heart here because I really wanted to play for Vasco.”

For now, the dream is on hold – and his reality in north London looks increasingly bleak.

Last season, Richarlison was vital for Spurs. He finished as the club’s top scorer in the Premier League, hitting 11 goals and playing a major role in steering them away from a shock relegation fight. He was the forward who found form when others faded, the one bright attacking constant in a turbulent campaign.

This season, he has been frozen out.

Despite those contributions, Tottenham have left him out of their registered Premier League squad entirely for the current campaign. He has made just a single league appearance so far, coming in the bruising 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend.

Since then, nothing.

The landscape up front has shifted. The arrival of Omar Marmoush from Manchester City has nudged Richarlison even further down the pecking order, turning what was once his stage into someone else’s opportunity.

All of this unfolds as the clock ticks on his contract. The 27-year-old is now into the final 12 months of the five-year deal he signed when he joined Spurs from Everton in 2022, a timeline that only sharpens the sense of uncertainty around his future.

He wanted a temporary escape and a return to his roots. Tottenham said no.

Now the question hangs over both club and player: where does Richarlison go from here?
