Kompany Backs Boey at Bayern Munich Amid Transfer Speculation

Vincent Kompany has thrown his weight behind Sacha Boey at Bayern Munich, even after a summer in which the club tried – and failed – to move the French full-back on.

Bayern actively looked for a buyer, but no acceptable offer arrived before the window shut. Boey stayed. Now he has a coach publicly drawing a line under the saga.

“Now the transfer window is closed, and Sacha is part of our team and has our support,” Kompany said at his press conference. The message was firm: the speculation is over, the work starts here.

Kompany didn’t dress up the reality of Boey’s situation, either. The right-back pecking order is crowded.

“My role now is that he performs. But the reality is we have Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer in the position, and competition is already fierce,” he admitted.

That’s the challenge. The route into the team is narrow, and Boey will have to force it open.

“So you need patience and hard work. But anything can happen in football if you have the right attitude,” Kompany added, underlining the path back into favour.

For now, Bayern are keeping it simple with the 23-year-old.

“We're simply treating him with respect. He's training very well at the moment, and everything else will fall into place,” said Kompany, pointing to Boey’s response on the training ground rather than on the market.

The coach also lifted the curtain slightly on how Bayern’s hierarchy – led by Max Eberl and Christoph Freund – handled a player who knew he was on the market.

“What I've seen working with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund is that the club is clear and straightforward; also in dealings with players,” Kompany explained.

“It's not always pleasant for the player, but you also gain a lot of respect from the players when you speak to them clearly and honestly.”

Boey now lives in that space: the window shut, the verdict delivered, the pathway brutal but transparent. The next move is his.
