Juventus Sign Nick Woltemade on Loan from Newcastle

Juventus have struck a deal to take Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan, moving quickly to reshape their attack before Tuesday’s deadline.

The 24-year-old, signed by Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025, is expected in Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m fee. The agreement is a straight loan: no option, no obligation, no strings beyond this season.

Juventus pick Woltemade over pricier targets

Juve had cast the net wide for a new forward. With Jonathan David poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan, the Italian giants needed a different solution at the top end of the pitch.

Talks were held with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee after his proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed. That deal stalled too. The numbers were heavy, and United pushed for an obligation-to-buy clause that Juventus were reluctant to accept.

So the focus sharpened on Woltemade. Cheaper. More flexible. A better tactical fit in their eyes. And crucially, a loan without the financial handcuffs that would have come with Zirkzee.

Newcastle’s record signing on the move

Woltemade arrives in Serie A still trying to fully ignite his Newcastle career. He has featured in all three of new manager Matthias Jaissle’s opening matches, but only once from the start.

On Saturday, he came off the bench at Tottenham Hotspur and made a clear impact, setting up Yoane Wissa’s goal in a 2-0 away win. It was a reminder of his quality and presence in the final third, but not enough to change Newcastle’s broader transfer strategy.

The club’s record £69m outlay on him now gives way, at least temporarily, to a different attacking project.

Fernandez-Pardo arrival opens the door

The move is closely tied to Newcastle’s own recruitment drive. BBC Sport had already indicated that a deal for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo would likely free Woltemade to leave.

That domino has now fallen. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to complete a transfer worth up to £55m, clearing the path for Newcastle to sanction Woltemade’s loan exit.

For Juventus, it’s a calculated play: a forward entering his prime, arriving on a low-risk deal, with room to grow and something to prove.

For Woltemade, it’s simple. A season in Turin, a chance to nail down minutes at a European giant, and an opportunity to show why Newcastle once made him their £69m statement signing.
