Ayoub El Kaabi's Injury: Lengthy Lay-Off After Double Leg Fracture
Olympiacos’s early-season momentum has been jolted by a brutal twist. Ayoub El Kaabi, the Moroccan international who has become the club’s reference point in attack, has suffered a serious double leg fracture that will keep him out for months.
The injury came late in the first half of Olympiacos’s 1-1 draw with Volos in the third round of the Greek top flight. One moment he was battling in the box, the next he was on the turf, clearly in distress. Greek outlet Sportal reported that El Kaabi sustained fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg – the kind of damage that instantly changes a season.
There was no time to waste.
El Kaabi was taken for immediate surgery in Athens, where Olympiacos doctor Christos Theos led the operation alongside his medical team. According to Sportal, the procedure was completed successfully, a crucial first step in a long road back.
Sport 24 detailed the club’s official communication, noting that the operation at the B. Valeriou clinic, part of the Athens Medical Centre, “was carried out smoothly” by Theos and his staff. The club stressed that the post-surgery phase is unfolding according to the medical plan, with rehabilitation starting right away. The aim is clear: a gradual, safe and complete return to full competitive action.
Timeline for Recovery
The timeline, though, is sobering.
Greek outlet Protothema reported that El Kaabi is expected to be sidelined for between six and seven months. That estimate could shift. As the same report underlined, the exact length of his absence will depend heavily on how his body responds to treatment and the intensity of his rehab work in the coming weeks.
For Olympiacos, it is a gut punch. For El Kaabi, it is a fight to reclaim his place on the pitch before this campaign is gone for good.
