Zian Flemming Excited for Premier League Return with Ipswich Town

Zian Flemming did not bother hiding it. This is what he wanted.

“Joy and excitement,” he called it, the feeling of being back in the Premier League, this time in Ipswich Town blue and white, with Liverpool waiting under the Portman Road lights on Friday night.

The 28-year-old forward arrived on deadline day in a £20m move from Burnley, a statement signing for the newly promoted Tractor Boys and a player with unfinished business in England’s top flight. He hit 11 league goals for the Clarets last season, a bright individual return that could not prevent relegation and left him with a nagging sense of a job half-done.

“For me it's just pure excitement,” Flemming told the media on Thursday, speaking with the energy of someone who has already fast-forwarded to kick-off. “This move for me to go back to the Premier League – I'm happy with that.”

The fixture list sharpened that feeling. One glance at Ipswich’s schedule was enough.

“When the move was getting closer and I really looked at the schedule and realised we were playing Liverpool on Friday I thought, ‘yeah, I'm really back in the Prem!’”

That is the stage he craves. The elite, the scrutiny, the noise.

“That's what you want, to play against the best teams and best players,” he said. “That's what gave me so much joy and excitement last year, to be able to measure yourself against the very best and have them push you to the next level. I can't wait to do that again and experience that again.”

His words carry the edge of someone driven by challenges, not comfort. Relegation with Burnley has not dulled that.

“I just get a sensation of excitement for challenges,” Flemming explained. “Whether it's a personal or a team challenge it brings something to life inside of me to take it on. Last season I managed to come out on top of the personal challenge to become a Premier League player but lost out on the team challenge and stay in the league.”

That split – personal success, collective failure – clearly still bites. Ipswich offers a reset and a new climb.

“I'd like to be at the bottom of the mountain and look up and wonder what it is like at the top,” he said. “Then, get my head down and see how far I can get and see whether I can reach the top.”

The mountain starts with Liverpool, the cameras, and a club roaring back into the spotlight. Flemming sounds ready to start climbing.
