Cape Verde’s World Cup hero has made his choice. And it is not Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
At 40, when most goalkeepers are quietly slipping out of the spotlight, Vozinha has stepped into a new one, signing for Chilean giants Colo Colo on a free transfer after weeks of speculation over his future. The deal ends a summer of rumours that had him bound for MLS and a glamorous late-career stint in Miami alongside Messi.
Instead, he heads to Santiago, not South Beach.
From free agent to cult figure
Vozinha had been without a club since leaving Portuguese side Chaves on July 1. On paper, he was a veteran free agent with a modest reported market value of around €500,000. On the pitch in Qatar, he became something else entirely.
