Tottenham are scrambling to reshape their defence in the final stretch of the transfer window, with a move for Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo now firmly on the table, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have already spent heavily this summer, but any late business is increasingly tied to who goes out of the door. One of those pushing to leave is Kevin Danso – and his situation is forcing Tottenham into action.
Dressing-room requests force Spurs’ hand

“He said too many times [Richarlison] he wants to leave. Danso came to me two days ago, and he said he wants to leave, and Pape Sarr, the same, but he suffer[ed] a small injury, but he is almost ready to train.”
With Danso agitating for a move and interest emerging from fellow Premier League side Sunderland, Spurs are braced for a late defensive reshuffle. The expectation inside the club is that Danso will be allowed to depart in the coming days, provided a replacement is lined up quickly enough.
That is where Tosin comes in.

Romano reports that Chelsea are working on a deal involving Tosin, opening the door for Tottenham to step in. For Spurs, it is described as a “concrete possibility”, though the structure of any agreement remains undecided – loan or permanent, both options are understood to be in play.
One major question hangs over the talks: would Chelsea really sell to a direct London rival?
Tottenham’s level of engagement suggests they have at least some encouragement that a deal is not off-limits, but the clock is ticking and both clubs have their own defensive puzzles to solve.
Spurs know one thing: if Danso goes, they cannot afford to be left short at centre-back with so little time left in the window.
Does Tosin fit the Spurs puzzle?
On the face of it, the move is not straightforward.
Tosin has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at Chelsea. His next step needs to be to a club that can offer consistent minutes, not another bench role. Breaking into Tottenham’s back line will not be simple either, with Micky van de Ven, Marcos Senesi and Jan-Paul van Hecke currently the three main options at centre-back.
That raises a tactical question for Spurs’ hierarchy.
Is Tosin the right profile if he arrives primarily as cover? Or would a more versatile defender, capable of operating across the back line, make more sense in a squad already stacked with specialist centre-backs?
From Chelsea’s side, retaining him as depth has its logic. From Tottenham’s, the appeal lies in securing a ready-made replacement if Danso walks away.
Final piece of the window?
Tottenham’s late-window priorities are becoming clear. After the arrival of Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, all signs point to a defender being the club’s final signing of the summer.
Whether that player is Tosin Adarabioyo, or a different, more flexible option, may come down to how quickly Spurs can move – and how far Chelsea are willing to go in strengthening a rival just as the season starts to take shape.
