Scott McTominay to Undergo Heart Surgery

Scott McTominay faces a month out after Napoli revealed the midfielder will undergo surgery to correct a minor heart issue.

The Serie A champions confirmed on Tuesday that the 29-year-old has developed a "mild, benign arrhythmia" – an irregular heartbeat that requires a procedure but is not considered dangerous.

In a club statement, Napoli said McTominay is scheduled for corrective ablation surgery (PFA) in the coming days and stressed the timescale for his return is already clear: he is expected to be available again after the international break.

Impact on Scotland

The timing, though, hits Scotland hard.

McTominay will miss all four of Scotland's Nations League group fixtures, two meetings with Slovenia and one each against Switzerland and North Macedonia, a crucial run of games between September 26 and October 6.

For Napoli, it is a brief interruption to the start of his Serie A chapter. For Scotland, it is a hole in the heart of their midfield at the very moment the Nations League campaign begins to take shape.
