Mohammed Fuseini Returns to Training After Violent Robbery

Union Saint-Gilloise forward Mohammed Fuseini has returned to training after being the victim of a violent street robbery in Brussels that was captured on a team-mate’s mobile phone.

The footage, filmed by a colleague walking just behind him, proved crucial. It allowed police to quickly identify suspects after Fuseini and two others were attacked on their way to their vehicle, robbed of watches, phones and other personal belongings.

Union confirmed the Ghanaian’s condition after he was taken to hospital for checks. “The footage from last Sunday is particularly disturbing. He subsequently went to the hospital for a check-up and received excellent care from the Brussels police, whom we warmly thank for their outstanding work. His injuries are minor, and he resumed training yesterday,” the club said.

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office later detailed the scale of the incident, quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws. “Three individuals fell victim to a violent robbery while heading to their vehicle in Brussels. According to initial findings from the investigation, several individuals attacked them and stole various valuables, including watches, phones, and personal belongings.”

The investigation moved quickly. A 23-year-old suspect was remanded in custody at Haren prison after stolen items were recovered at his home. The man’s lawyer, Samuel Rosenblatt, confirmed his client’s detention on charges of gang robbery with violence.

“I cannot say anything further about that, as the judicial investigation is still ongoing. My client is aware of the severity of the facts and regrets them,” Rosenblatt said.

Prosecutors requested an investigating judge and formally charged the suspect with violent gang robbery. According to the authorities, two of the three victims suffered injuries serious enough to cause a temporary incapacity for work. The suspect reportedly has no prior criminal record.

For Fuseini, it is another jarring interruption in a period that was supposed to be about rebuilding his rhythm on the pitch. A popular figure in the Union dressing room, the forward has scored 14 goals in 71 appearances and is under contract with RUSG until 2028. His 2025-26 campaign had already been shredded by muscle, ankle and hamstring problems, costing him 25 matches across 145 days.

Now, after a nightmarish episode away from the stadium, he is back on the training pitch, trying once again to pick up the pieces of a season that refuses to run smoothly.
