Elland Road wakes up early on Sunday, and it does so to a meeting of two clubs heading in very different directions.
Leeds United, unbeaten in the Premier League and fresh from a ruthless 4-1 dismantling of Newcastle United on Sept. 14, suddenly look like a side with serious momentum under Daniel Farke. Crystal Palace arrive with a Europa League spring in their step after a 4-0 win over Lech Poznań, yet they sit 17th in the league and already feel the weight of the table.

Leeds riding the league wave, scars from the cup
Leeds’ start to the league campaign has been sharp and efficient. Two wins, two draws, eight points, sixth place. No defeats. For a club that has known turbulence, that matters.
The mood, though, is not unblemished. Chelsea dumped them out of the Carabao Cup with a wild 6-3 scoreline in the third round, a reminder that this Leeds side can still be exposed if games open up too much. Farke will want Sunday to look a lot more like Newcastle than Chelsea.
Injuries force him to tweak rather than overhaul. Harry Wilson is out with a thigh problem, Joe Rodon is sidelined by a hamstring issue, and Mateo Joseph is missing with a knee injury. The spine remains intact, but the options are thinner.
Even so, Leeds can still field a side that looks built to control and then punish. Trafford is expected to start in goal, protected by a back three of Justin, Elvedi and Muharemovic. Out wide, Bogle and Gudmundsson offer legs and width, with Stach, Ampadu and Tanaka forming a busy, combative midfield core.
Up front, the responsibility is clear. Calvert-Lewin and Okafor carry the goal threat. If Leeds pin Palace back the way they did Newcastle, those two will not lack service.

Palace stuck near the bottom, chasing a spark
For Palace, this fixture already feels like a test of character.
Three points from four league games. One win, three defeats. Seventeenth in the table. The Europa League win over Lech Poznań was emphatic and needed, but domestic form still drags them down. Climbing out of this early-season hole, while trying to keep European momentum alive, is exactly the kind of balancing act that can define a campaign.
They do not arrive at Elland Road at full strength. Axel Disasi is suspended, stripping Palace of a key defensive presence. Dean Henderson is out with an ankle injury, Chadi Riad is sidelined by a knee problem, and Jean-Philippe Mateta misses out with a hamstring issue.
Even with those absences, the likely XI has weapons. Henderson is tipped to start in goal despite the injury listing, with Tomiyasu, Richards and Ahanor forming a three-man defence. Across midfield, Khalaili, Timber, Wharton and Mitchell give Palace energy and technical quality, the sort of mix they’ll need to survive long spells without the ball.
The front line is where the danger lies. Sarr and Pino will look to stretch Leeds on the break, with Strand Larsen leading the line and battling the Leeds back three.
