Leeds United Appeal Goal Decision for Bogle vs Calvert-Lewin

Leeds United have taken the unusual step of appealing the decision to credit their second goal in Monday night’s 4-1 win over Newcastle to Jayden Bogle rather than Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The incident came in the 34th minute. James Justin whipped in a cross, Calvert-Lewin attacked it, and the ball flew in for what looked like a classic centre-forward’s header to make it 2-0. On the stadium screens and in the stands, it was instantly assumed to be his.

Not for long.

After a later review, officials ruled that Bogle had applied the decisive touch, with the defender eventually being awarded the goal. Calvert-Lewin, who did get on the scoresheet in first-half stoppage time with Leeds’ third, was left visibly stunned when the referee informed him that the earlier strike belonged to his team-mate instead.

The Premier League match centre later confirmed on X that the “goal accreditation panel adjudged Leeds' 34th minute goal as a Bogle goal”, underlining that the call had gone through the standard review process.

Leeds are not letting it rest there. The club have now formally submitted an appeal, triggering a second panel to re-examine the footage and decide who will be officially recorded as the scorer.

The result is settled. The record books are not – at least, not yet for that 34th-minute header.
