Inter Milan's Pursuit of Curtis Jones: Liverpool's Firm Stance
Inter Milan have come back for Curtis Jones. Liverpool’s answer, for now, is the same: pay the full price or walk away.
The Serie A champions have renewed their push for the Liverpool midfielder as they look to reload for another title defence in Italy. An opening offer of around €25 million went in earlier in the summer and was swiftly rejected. Inter have now returned through intermediaries with a package worth €35 million.
It still isn’t enough.
Liverpool have been consistent. They value Jones at close to €40 million and, according to The Athletic, have shown no appetite to shift from that figure. Internally, the club point to Tottenham Hotspur’s €40 million move for Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid earlier this year as a clear marker of where they believe the market now sits for a homegrown, Premier League-proven midfielder.
Inter’s interest is long-standing, not opportunistic. The Nerazzurri sounded out a deal in January, trying to tempt Liverpool with an initial loan and an option to buy. That proposal barely got off the ground. Liverpool dismissed it without hesitation and made it clear that only a permanent transfer at the right price would even be considered.
This time, Inter have come back with exactly that in mind: a straight sale, a key piece to further strengthen a midfield that has already powered them to another Scudetto. They see Jones as a technically secure, tactically flexible option who fits Serie A’s rhythm and Simone Inzaghi’s demands.
Liverpool see something else: one of the pillars of their squad build.
Jones is into the final year of his contract at Anfield, but that ticking clock has not altered Liverpool’s stance. Club officials are prepared, if it comes to it, to let the situation run and risk him leaving on a free in 2027 rather than accept what they regard as a cut‑price deal for one of their longest-serving first-team players.
It is a hard line, and a calculated one.
Since his senior debut in 2019, Jones has grown from academy hopeful to dependable first-teamer. He has passed the 220-appearance mark, chipping in with goals, assists and, crucially, the sort of positional versatility that managers lean on across a long season. He can sit, he can shuttle, he can drift into pockets between the lines. His technical security and ball retention give Liverpool control in tight games, and his ability to slot into multiple roles keeps him firmly in the plans despite fierce competition in midfield.
That is why Liverpool are not rushing to cash in. There are, at present, no active talks over a contract extension, but the door is not closed. The club are understood to be open to fresh negotiations if common ground can be found down the line.
For now, the equation is simple. Inter want Jones. Liverpool want around €40 million or they keep him.
The Italian champions have made their move. If they truly believe Jones is the midfielder to elevate them again, the next bid will have to say so.
