“I've enjoyed watching him, what I've seen. He's not at 100% yet, but he could get some playing time in the second half. He's ready. I like how I've seen him, with the ball, he stays calm in front of goal,” the coach said, underlining both caution and excitement in a few sharp lines.

So the message is simple. Don’t expect a starter. Do expect a cameo.

A different kind of signing

Barcelona are not selling the idea of Jesus as a saviour. They see him as something just as valuable across a long season: a high-level squad player.

The plan is for Jesus to offer strong backup minutes to Raphinha across the front line, keeping the team’s intensity and quality intact when Flick turns to his bench. At his peak with Man City and Arsenal, the Brazilian built a reputation as a complete forward – pressing hard, linking play, and staying composed in front of goal.

Fitness the only doubt

The one cloud is his physical condition. Flick has been clear that Jesus is not yet at full fitness, which rules out heavy minutes and any thought of an immediate starring role.
