Wrexham Aims to Impress Against Swansea City in Championship Clash

Phil Parkinson insists Wrexham will walk out at Swansea City on Saturday night as a very different Championship animal to the one that left south Wales stung last season.

Wrexham lost 2-1 to Mitor Matos’ side in December, a defeat that hurt at the time but did little to derail their surge up the table. They recovered to finish seventh in 2025-26, their highest placing in the second tier.

Now they return to the Swansea.com Stadium with the hosts sitting top of the Championship, 10 points from a possible 12 and setting the early pace. The stage is bigger. The stakes feel higher. Parkinson’s belief, though, has only grown.

The Wrexham manager pointed to Wednesday’s ruthless 3-0 victory at Millwall as the clearest sign of how far his team have come since that “gut-wrenching” loss in Swansea.

Asked if Wrexham are better equipped this time, Parkinson did not hesitate.

“Absolutely,” he said. “The Millwall game is a good example of that, where we won 2-0 down there last year and we beat them 3-0 this year.

“But they were very different games in terms of the control we had in the game this time around.

“We looked to a more accomplished Championship side this time around. The players have got used to the level and of course we've added quality into the group.”

That, for Parkinson, is the difference. Last season’s visit to Swansea felt like a test of whether Wrexham belonged. This one feels like a measure of how high they can push the ceiling.
