Barcelona's Striker Dilemma: Julian Alvarez Pursuit Nears Collapse

Barcelona’s long pursuit of Julian Alvarez is close to collapsing, just as their La Liga season is about to begin with a glaring problem: there is still no recognised striker in the squad.

The Catalan side open against Elche on Sunday, but the number nine role remains a void. All summer, the plan has been clear. Alvarez or bust. Atletico Madrid, though, have refused to play along.

Atletico remain firm. The Argentine is not for sale. No negotiation, no compromise. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will make one final push to prise Alvarez away, a last swing before accepting defeat.

Inside the club, the clock is now everything. Barcelona have reportedly set a hard deadline of the next two or three days. If Atletico still refuse to budge, the Alvarez chase ends and attention will turn elsewhere.

The alternative list is already bloated. Dozens of names have been floated, tested, discarded, then revived again as the weeks have dragged on. The rumour mill has barely paused and now Ayoze Perez is the latest forward linked with a move to Camp Nou.

All the while, the Alvarez saga has dominated the summer narrative, overshadowing almost everything else. But with kick-off looming and time draining away, Barcelona look closer than ever to drawing a line under it and finally choosing a different path up front.
