Arsenal's New Signing Christos Tzolis: Ready for Action

Arsenal’s new Greek winger Christos Tzolis has barely stopped to catch his breath, but he might already be a step ahead of his new team-mates.

Brought in to replace Leandro Trossard, who joined Besiktas last week, Tzolis arrives not as a project for tomorrow but as a ready-made option for today. Arsenal plan to use him primarily off the left, yet his game stretches across the entire front line. He is comfortable drifting centrally, attacking from the right, and constantly threatening the final third.

That threat is exactly what caught Arsenal’s eye. Last season in Belgium, Tzolis produced 22 goals and 29 assists, numbers that turn a scouting report into a recruitment decision. He left Brugge on a high, signing off with a classic winger’s goal: cutting in from the left and whipping a curling finish into the top corner against Feyenoord in a friendly. It was the sort of strike that sticks in the memory of both coaches and defenders.

While much of Arsenal’s squad is still working its way back after the World Cup, Tzolis has barely broken stride. Greece did not qualify, so his summer was short and sharp rather than long and draining. He had just under four weeks off, and even that wasn’t truly a break. As soon as he heard of Arsenal’s interest, he carved out time to train alone, keeping his fitness high and his touch sharp.

The momentum continued at club level. Before his move was finalised, Tzolis completed two weeks of pre-season with Brugge, returning to training in early July and getting 45 minutes under his belt against Feyenoord. While some of his new team-mates were still on holiday or easing back into full sessions, he was already in match rhythm.

Arsenal officially launched their pre-season this week at the Sobha Reality Training Centre, and Tzolis has immediately joined the group. There was a lighter mini-camp in Marbella last week, but it did not match the intensity of the work he had already done in Belgium. Right now, there is every chance the new signing is sharper and fitter than most of the dressing room around him.

That timing could matter quickly. Arsenal face Girona in Spain next weekend in their first pre-season fixture, and Tzolis is expected to travel with the squad. With minutes already in his legs and confidence from a strong season behind him, he is firmly in line for a first appearance in Arsenal colours.

A new left wing, a vacant Trossard-shaped space, and a player already up to speed. Pre-season rarely offers guarantees, but it does offer opportunities — and Tzolis looks ready to grab his immediately.
