Yves Bissouma Set for Ajax Move: Short-Term Deal Until Season's End

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder set to sign an initial deal running until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Spurs in June, but is now on the brink of a return to top-flight football in the Netherlands. He is in Amsterdam finalising the switch to the Eredivisie giants, with the agreement understood to include an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

For Ajax, it is a calculated move: experience, bite in midfield, and a player who knows the demands of major European leagues. For Bissouma, it is a reset.

The Mali international joined Tottenham in 2022 after a standout spell at Brighton, arriving in north London amid high expectations. He went on to make 111 appearances for Spurs, featuring across multiple competitions and under different managers as the club tried to reshape its identity.

His time at Tottenham, though, never quite settled into a smooth narrative. In August 2025, then Spurs manager Thomas Frank left Bissouma out of the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup, citing persistent lateness. It was a public flashpoint, and it lingered.

Now comes a different stage and a different kind of pressure. Ajax, rebuilding and demanding control in midfield, are offering a short-term contract with a potential year’s extension — a structure that suits both sides. If Bissouma finds his rhythm in Amsterdam, that option year could quickly move from safety net to priority.
