Yves Bissouma Set to Join Ajax on Short-Term Deal

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder set to sign an initial deal running until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old, a free agent since leaving Spurs in June, is in Amsterdam to finalise the switch and is expected to commit to a contract that includes an option for a further 12 months. If all goes to plan, the Mali international will relaunch his career in the Eredivisie after several months out of the game.

For Ajax, it is a calculated move: experience in a position where control has too often slipped away in recent seasons. For Bissouma, it is a reset.

He arrived at Tottenham in 2022 on the back of an impressive spell at Brighton, billed as a dominant presence in midfield and a key part of Spurs’ rebuild. Across his time in north London he made 111 appearances, showing flashes of the ball-winning and driving runs that made his reputation on the south coast.

The story lost its way last year. In August 2025, then Spurs manager Thomas Frank omitted Bissouma from his squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris St-Germain, citing persistent lateness. From there, his influence faded and his contract eventually ran down.

Now comes a different stage and a different kind of pressure. Ajax are rebuilding, hungry for stability in the centre of the pitch and banking on Bissouma’s experience to anchor a new spine.

He gets a short-term platform, with an extra year on the table if both sides like what they see. They get a midfielder with a point to prove.

How long that partnership lasts will depend on what happens next in Amsterdam.
