Virgil van Dijk has drawn a firm line in the sand over Cody Gakpo’s future – and it points away from Manchester City.
City are in active talks over a deal for the Dutch forward, with a fee of around £80 million under discussion, and The Athletic reports that Pep Guardiola’s side have become Gakpo’s preferred destination after Tottenham Hotspur also showed interest. The clock is ticking on the window, but Liverpool’s captain is in no mood to see a key team-mate walk out the door.
Van Dijk’s message on Gakpo: “We should keep our quality players”
Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham, Van Dijk was asked the obvious question: does he want Gakpo to stay?
