Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati on Free Transfer

Tyrell Malacia is heading to MLS, with FC Cincinnati snapping up the former Manchester United left-back on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international, who left Old Trafford at the end of last season, has signed a deal that runs through next June. Cincinnati also hold an option to extend his stay through the 2027-28 campaign, giving the club flexibility if the move clicks as they hope.

Malacia arrives in Ohio after an injury-disrupted spell at United. He joined the 20-time English champions from Feyenoord in 2022 and went on to make 50 appearances, showing flashes of the aggressive, front-foot defending that first drew Premier League attention before fitness issues stalled his momentum.

For Cincinnati, this is a move aimed at adding proven pedigree to the back line.

"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," said general manager Chris Albright. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.

"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."

A defender who has lived the pressure of Manchester and Rotterdam now steps into a different kind of spotlight in MLS. How quickly he adapts to the league’s pace and physicality will shape not just his own revival, but Cincinnati’s ambitions for the seasons covered by that option year.
