The Frenchman also used his first public appearance to underline why he accepted the Senegal job. Money, he insisted, had nothing to do with it.
“My choice was a decision that came from the heart, and not for the money,” he said, drawing a clear line under any suggestion that his move was financially driven.
Vieira explained that the deal came together quickly. One conversation with the hierarchy was enough.
“From the very first meeting that brought me together with the federation president, I immediately agreed to take on this challenge,” he added.
