Trevoh Chalobah Joins England's World Cup Squad

Trevoh Chalobah has been drafted into England’s 2026 World Cup squad as a late replacement after a calf injury ruled out a former Chelsea Academy defender on the eve of the tournament.

The change comes under FIFA rules that allow nations to swap an outfield player up to 24 hours before their opening game. England have moved quickly, turning to a defender they know well, and one who has already had a taste of the international stage.

Chalobah, 26, owns a single senior cap, earned in a friendly against Senegal almost exactly a year ago. It was a brief glimpse then; now the stakes are far higher. This time, he walks into a World Cup dressing room.

He will not be short of familiar faces. The Chelsea defender links up with club teammate Reece James in a squad now finalising preparations for their first Group L assignment against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday.
