Tottenham’s £237m Rebuild: Another Bomba Expected
Tottenham are not done yet. Not by a long way.
Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear that Spurs’ lavish summer will roll on, with the club closing in on a new attacker as they continue an aggressive overhaul of the squad.
Six signings are already through the door. Around £237million has been poured into Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, with Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka arriving on free transfers to thicken the spine and sharpen the edges of De Zerbi’s team.
It would be easy to assume the heavy lifting is over. De Zerbi insists it is not.
‘Like a shark’
Speaking to football.london, the Italian offered a glimpse into his mindset in the market – and into Tottenham’s plans for the final stretch of the window.
"In the transfer market, when I want one player, I become like a shark. No chance to say no,” he said.
He estimates Spurs have completed “60 per cent” of their transfer project. That remaining 40 per cent includes what he called “another bomba” – a big attacking addition before the window closes on September 1.
The pressure is on the forward line. The priority now is clear: bring in a winger, and possibly another striker, to turn a reshaped squad into a genuinely dangerous attacking unit.
Savinho in Spurs’ sights
Standard Sport understands Tottenham hold a strong interest in Manchester City winger Savinho, with the Brazilian having told City this week that he wants to leave in search of regular minutes.
Savinho sits high on the list drawn up in March during talks between De Zerbi and sporting director Johan Lange. His appeal is obvious: direct running, a willingness to attack space in behind, and the kind of vertical threat that stretches defences and drags backlines towards their own goal.
Asked whether a deal for an attacker was close, De Zerbi admitted there were still details to iron out but made it clear he expects negotiations to move quickly. Spurs want their new forward in place before the market shuts. The manager sounds like a man who believes that will happen.
Built from the full-backs out
De Zerbi’s vision for his attack starts in an unusual place: the full-backs.
"No two players are the same,” he said. “A winger can be a very wide winger, one able to come inside, a winger without a full-back, a winger able to play with the full-back.
"We have four great full-backs at the moment, maybe the four most important full-backs in the world, because I think Pedro Porro is the best right-back in the world, with [Destiny] Udogie, Robertson, and Djed Spence can play right and left.
"Before bringing in a winger, we have to consider the full-back, because we start from the full-back, from the player we already have, no?"
That is the tactical frame for the final signing. Tottenham do not simply want a flashy wide player; they want someone who unlocks Pedro Porro’s overlaps, who dovetails with Destiny Udogie’s surges, who understands when to hug the touchline and when to drift inside to free the flanks for those aggressive full-backs.
Savinho fits much of that profile. So do others on the list. The identity of De Zerbi’s “bomba” is still under wraps, but the message is unmistakable: Spurs have rebuilt the base. Now they are hunting the forward who can turn this ambitious project into something far more dangerous.
