Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving After M3 Crash

Raheem Sterling, the former England winger with more than 80 caps to his name, has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide following a crash on the M3 in May.

The 31-year-old, currently without a club after leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season, was involved in a single-vehicle collision on May 28 in Hampshire, near the Minley Interchange on the southbound carriageway.

Police confirmed the incident involved a Lamborghini. No other vehicles were caught up in the crash and no injuries were reported.

"A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3," a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman told BBC News, before naming Sterling and outlining the offences.

Sterling, from Berkshire, has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen. He is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates’ court on 15 September.

The case comes at a crossroads moment in a high-profile career. Sterling has been a free agent since his departure from Dutch side Feyenoord, leaving his club future unresolved while his off-field situation now moves into the spotlight.

On the pitch, his record for England remains substantial: 82 appearances, 20 goals, and a central role in the team that reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the Euro 2020 final.

Domestically, he has worn the colours of some of England’s most powerful clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Now, with a court date set and no current employer, the next chapter of his career will be shaped as much by events off the field as anything he does with the ball at his feet.
