Sheffield United Sign Experienced Forward Jordan Ayew

Sheffield United have moved to bolster their forward line with the signing of experienced Ghana international Jordan Ayew on a deal until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old arrives as a free agent after leaving Leicester City in the summer, following the Foxes’ drop into League One. His exit ended a short, bruising spell at the King Power, but not his long-running relationship with English football.

Ayew first landed in England in 2015, swapping Lorient for Aston Villa, and has since carved out more than a decade in the Premier League and Championship with Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester. Across those 11 years he has been a constant presence, often trusted for his work rate as much as his goals.

Chris Wilder's Comments

Chris Wilder made no attempt to play down the significance of the deal.

"We're talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game," the Blades boss told the club’s website. "Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he's someone with real pedigree.

"He did well at this level last season in difficult circumstances and has played all across the front positions during his career which gives us plenty of options."

International Experience

Ayew’s international résumé backs that up. With 124 caps for Ghana, he has been a mainstay for the Black Stars, carrying the armband and the expectation of a football-obsessed nation.
