Eli Junior Kroupi Shortlisted for Men’s Young Talent of the Year

Eli Junior Kroupi’s rise has been put on pause this season, but the recognition keeps coming.

The Bournemouth forward has been shortlisted for the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, a nod to a breakout campaign that lit up the south coast and caught the eye across Europe.

At 20, Kroupi stands among elite company. He is one of three Premier League players in a 10-man shortlist, joining Manchester City’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and Aston Villa’s Johan Manzambi in the race for the award.

The numbers behind his nomination are hard to ignore. After making his Bournemouth debut in August 2025, Kroupi went on to rack up 35 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 13 goals. For a first year in English football, it was a statement.

The impact was historic, too. By the end of the 2025-26 campaign, he had scored more goals than any other teenager in their debut Premier League season. In a league stacked with attacking talent, a Bournemouth youngster set the standard.

This season, though, has brought a harsh contrast. A foot injury in pre-season and subsequent surgery have kept him sidelined, denying him the chance to build instantly on that momentum. He has yet to feature, watching Bournemouth’s start to the campaign from the treatment room rather than the pitch.

There is at least a timeline. Kroupi is expected to return in October or November, a potential mid-autumn boost for Bournemouth just as the fixtures begin to pile up and the season’s shape starts to form.

His next major date, however, comes away from the grass. The Men’s Young Talent of the Year award will be handed out at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday, 26 October — a night where a young striker from Bournemouth could see his breakthrough year etched into the game’s global honours list.
