FC Utrecht Fights Back to Draw 3-3 Against Go Ahead Eagles
FC Utrecht needed 25 minutes to save their pride. They used almost every second.
In an empty Stadion Galgenwaard on Tuesday afternoon, Utrecht overturned a disastrous weekend by scoring twice late on to turn a 0-3 humiliation into a 3-3 draw against Go Ahead Eagles in the resumed portion of their abandoned Eredivisie clash.
From chaos to closed doors
The story began on Saturday night, and it was ugly.
Go Ahead sliced through Utrecht with alarming ease. Mathis Suray struck first, Søren Tengstedt added another, and Victor Edvardsen made it 0-3. Boos rained down. Then came the fireworks – literally.
Home supporters hurled pyrotechnics onto the pitch. The match was halted. When play finally resumed, Utrecht showed a flicker of life: Dani de Wit pulled one back for 1-3, hinting at a comeback.
That hope barely had time to grow. Cups and other objects flew from the stands. The atmosphere turned toxic, a reflection of a wretched start to the season that had yielded just one point from the first four league games. After talks with local authorities, the decision came: the match would not continue.
The damage to Utrecht’s reputation was done. The scoreline, though, still had room to change.
A strange second act
The restart was set for Tuesday afternoon. Same stadium, same scoreline, but a very different stage: no fans, just 25 minutes plus stoppage time to play, and Utrecht chasing something, anything, to show for it.
They went for it.
Adrian Blake offered the first real warning. From distance, he let fly and saw his effort crash against the top of the crossbar. It jolted the game to life. Go Ahead, who had looked so comfortable on Saturday, suddenly felt the ground shift.
The pressure finally told. From a corner, Matisse Didden rose and powered his header home. 2-3. Utrecht had a pulse.
Go Ahead almost killed it off again. Suray, already on the scoresheet from the first part of the match, found himself with a chance to settle it. Vasilios Barkas stood firm, producing a crucial save that kept Utrecht alive.

The tension grew with every attack. Utrecht chased, Go Ahead tried to manage the chaos that had once been control.
Then came the turning point.
Alfons Sampsted brought down Blake in the area. No crowd noise, no roar, just the referee’s decision and the weight of the moment. Penalty.
Artem Stepanov stepped up. One clean strike, one golden chance taken. 3-3.
From 0-3 down and a match shrouded in disgrace, Utrecht walked away with a point – not enough to disguise the deep problems of their start to the season, but just enough to suggest there is still some fight left in this team.
