Richmond Park Section Closure for St Pat’s Home Games

Part of the main stand at Richmond Park will be shut for two of St Patrick’s Athletic’s upcoming home fixtures after an incident in last Friday’s defeat to Waterford.

The move follows an allegation that Waterford player Jorgen Voilas was struck by a spectator during St Pat’s 2-0 home loss.

An Independent Disciplinary Committee of the Football Association of Ireland has handed down a fine and ordered a one-match closure of Section G in the main stand. The committee has also triggered a previously suspended one-match closure of the same section, meaning Section G is now set to be closed for two games.

The club retains the right to appeal the sanctions.

League of Ireland officials confirmed the decision in a statement, noting the punishment stems from the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash between St Patrick’s Athletic FC and Waterford FC at Richmond Park on Friday, 28 August 2026.

Crucially for St Pat’s, the closure will not affect this Saturday’s home game against Bohemians. With the fixture so close, the committee has allowed that match to proceed as planned to give the club time to put operational changes in place.

The impact will instead hit later, with Section G currently due to be closed for the visits of Shamrock Rovers on 11 September and Shelbourne on 16 October.

“Given the limited time between Saturday’s fixture against Bohemian FC, the closures will take effect following that fixture to allow the necessary operational arrangements to be implemented. Section G will therefore be closed for St Patrick’s Athletic FC’s next two home league fixtures,” the League of Ireland statement said.

The decision can be challenged under FAI Disciplinary Regulations, but unless an appeal succeeds, a key section of Richmond Park will fall silent for two of the club’s biggest home dates of the season.
