Real Madrid's €150m Bid for Michael Olise: A Galáctico Promise
Florentino Pérez has gone back to his favourite campaign weapon: the promise of a galáctico. If he wins re-election this weekend, Real Madrid are ready to launch a €150m (£130m) bid for Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise.
The timing is no coincidence. The presidency is on the line, and so is the direction of the club.
Election, pressure and a transfer bombshell
Pérez is expected to beat challenger Enrique Riquelme, whose headline pledge has been an audacious move for Erling Haaland. That promise has already sparked fury at Manchester City, who have threatened legal action over what they view as an improper approach.
So Pérez has answered with a statement of his own.
Speaking to the Spanish media on Thursday, the long-serving president teased Madridistas with the prospect of a major signing in the coming days, a player of clear galáctico stature. He publicly denied that he was talking about Olise, yet the picture behind the scenes is very different. The Bayern winger is understood to be the primary target for this summer.
There is also admiration at Madrid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves, but if Pérez stays in power, the plan is simple: throw the weight of the club behind a full-scale push for Olise.
Olise’s rise and Bayern’s stance
The former Crystal Palace winger has not just adapted to life in Germany. He has taken it by the throat.
Since joining Bayern in 2024, Olise has become one of the central pillars of Vincent Kompany’s side, driving them to two Bundesliga titles and forcing his way into the conversation about the elite attacking players in world football. His form has made him a key figure for France heading into the World Cup, a player expected to shape games on the biggest stage.
Bayern know exactly what they have. Olise is tied to the club until 2029, and the German champions are preparing to resist. Hard.
Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s honorary president, has already drawn a line in the sand, branding Olise “unsellable”. For a club that sees itself as a destination, not a stepping stone, losing a 22-year-old winger of that calibre to Madrid would cut deep.
Yet Madrid are circling, and the signals from the Spanish capital are unmistakable.
Mourinho watching, Madrid plotting
The courtship has already begun in plain sight. José Mourinho, whose return to the Bernabéu dugout will be finalised if Pérez is re-elected, made his intentions clear by attending last month’s German Cup final. Bayern beat Stuttgart; Olise shone; Mourinho watched.
For a coach who built his reputation on ruthless, decisive teams, Olise offers exactly the kind of direct threat and individual brilliance that can tilt tight Champions League nights. A winger who can create, score, and carry a side up the pitch on his own terms is the kind of player Madrid have always paid for.
The message from Madrid is clear: after two seasons without a trophy, patience has run out.
A summer of upheaval at the Bernabéu
The club have already started reshaping the squad. Deals are in place for Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer and for Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries from Internazionale, moves that add power and depth to a back line that has creaked at crucial moments.
Those signings, though, are foundations. Olise would be the showpiece.
A €150m offer would test Bayern’s resolve and redefine Madrid’s attacking hierarchy. It would also confirm that Pérez, if re-elected, is not content with incremental change. He wants a new standard-bearer, a fresh galáctico to light up the Bernabéu.
Bayern insist Olise is going nowhere. Madrid are preparing to find out how true that really is.
