Quad Injury Sidelines Ross Stewart for Swansea Matches

Swansea City’s wait to truly unleash Ross Stewart will go on, with the Scotland striker expected to miss the club’s next four matches because of a quad injury.

The 30-year-old, who arrived last month on a three-year deal and was billed as a major attacking addition, has managed just one outing so far – a brief substitute appearance in the goalless draw with Sheffield United 11 days ago. Since then, his Swansea career has stalled before it has really started.

He sat out the Championship win at Derby County last weekend, then missed Tuesday night’s victory over Watford. Now the club are braced to be without him until after the upcoming international break.

That rules Stewart out of Saturday’s home game against Wrexham and a swift return to familiar territory next Tuesday, when Swansea travel to Southampton, his former club. He is also set to miss the fixtures against Burnley and Lincoln City, a run of matches that could shape Swansea’s early-season momentum.

Head Coach's Comments

Head coach Vitor Matos moved to play down fears of a long-term setback, but accepted the timing is far from ideal.

“Ross had a soft tissue injury, not massive, but probably he can return in the international break,” Matos said.

For now, Swansea must continue to find goals without their new No 9, hoping that when the league resumes after the break, Stewart is finally ready to step into the role they signed him for.
