Mason Greenwood's Future: Fenerbahce or Roma?
Mason Greenwood has turned his back on Saudi Arabia – but his time at Olympique de Marseille is still drawing to a close.
The 24-year-old forward, who arrived at OM two seasons ago to restart a stalled career, is expected to move on this summer. The signs are already visible in the small details: according to La Provence, Greenwood has handed back the keys to his house in Aix, a quiet off-pitch gesture that usually comes only when a player is certain the chapter is over.
What he will not be doing is following the now-familiar route to the Gulf. As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Greenwood has rejected sizeable offers from Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah. The money was there. The interest was serious. He still said no.
His future, for now, points in a different direction.
Fenerbahce step forward – but OM hold the line
L’Équipe report that Greenwood has reached an agreement on personal terms with Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants have moved decisively on the player side, sensing an opportunity to add a high-ceiling attacker in his mid‑20s.
The deal is not done. Not even close, from Marseille’s point of view.
OM and Fenerbahce remain apart on the fee, with the French club valuing Greenwood at around €50m. For a player they helped relaunch, and who still carries significant resale potential, Marseille are in no mood to discount. Until that gap closes, any agreement on wages and contract length in Istanbul is little more than a framework waiting for a green light.
Roma lurking as an alternative
There is another door slightly ajar. AS Roma are also interested and, crucially, Greenwood is keen on the idea of a move to the Italian capital.
Roma, like Fenerbahce, have yet to find common ground with OM over the price. Interest is real, the player is open, but the numbers have not aligned. For Marseille, with a clear €50m valuation in mind, this is a seller’s market until someone blinks.
So Greenwood stands at a familiar modern crossroads: Turkey on one side, Italy on the other, Saudi Arabia already crossed off the list. He has left his home in the south of France and, in all likelihood, soon his club.
The only question now is which ambitious project decides he is worth Marseille’s asking price.
