Jose Mourinho’s arrival only strengthens Madrid’s resolve. The new coach is understood to view Tchouameni as a cornerstone of his project, the midfielder around whom he can build a physically imposing, tactically disciplined engine room.
Tchouameni has grown into that role since his move from AS Monaco in 2022, gradually evolving from promising signing to key figure in one of Europe’s most competitive midfields. At 26, he sits right in the sweet spot between experience and upside, which makes him even harder to replace.
On top of that, he is already among the club’s highest earners, pulling in around €15.5 million per year including bonuses. Any Premier League suitor would have to match or improve that package, on top of a nine-figure transfer fee. The numbers stack up quickly, and not in United’s favour.
Extension talks, not exit talks
While United look on from a distance, Madrid are moving in the opposite direction. Rather than preparing for a sale, they are working on tying Tchouameni down for even longer.
Initial talks are under way over a new contract that would run to 2031, with an improved salary to reflect his growing status. It is a classic Madrid move: lock in a core player before the market really starts circling.
For Manchester United, that makes an already remote prospect feel even more distant. Admiration is one thing. Persuading Madrid and Tchouameni to break this partnership is quite another.
A different kind of Galactico: Olise chase gathers pace
While Madrid close ranks around their midfield enforcer, they are reportedly ready to open the vault for a very different profile of player.
Michael Olise has surged to the top of their attacking wishlist, and the numbers being discussed are staggering. Reports suggest Real Madrid are preparing a package worth up to €220 million to prise the forward away from Bayern Munich.
The structure is said to be €190 million guaranteed, with a further €30 million in performance-related bonuses. If that figure is reached, the deal would sit alongside Neymar’s switch from Barcelona to PSG as one of the most expensive transfers in football history.
This is not a casual enquiry. Inside Madrid, Olise is viewed as the ideal profile to elevate an attack already packed with talent.
World Cup star, hardline club
Olise’s rise at Bayern over the past year has been dramatic. His performances have turned him into one of the most coveted forwards in Europe, and his displays at the FIFA World Cup have only sharpened Madrid’s focus. The French international now fits perfectly into the club’s long-term transfer strategy: young, decisive, and already proven on the biggest stages.
The catch lies in Munich.
Bayern are under no pressure to sell and know exactly what they have. Olise is one of their most valuable assets, both on the pitch and on the balance sheet, and his recent form has only driven that value higher. The German champions are expected to make any negotiations long and demanding.
From their side, only an extraordinary proposal will even bring them to the table. Madrid’s potential €220 million offer is designed to be just that.
