Luis Diaz Praises Bayern's Brown as a Key Asset
Luis Diaz has seen enough. Six competitive games into Bayern Munich’s season, the Colombian is already convinced that one of the club’s biggest summer signings is the real deal.
“Spectacular. In the first matches I thought: wow,” Diaz told Sky, speaking about Brown. “He really surprised me, he has enormous potential.”
Brown arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for 50 million euros, and has wasted no time showing why Bayern paid that fee. His versatility has been the standout feature.
With the squad stretched and options thin, Vincent Kompany pushed the 23-year-old left-back into attacking midfield in the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund and in league matches against VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04. Brown handled it. Then he slipped back to his natural role on the left side of defence without fuss.
“This flexibility gives us a big advantage. We have brought in a great player. He will definitely help us move forward,” Diaz said, underlining just how quickly Brown has earned respect in the dressing room.
Saibari’s arrival and a Spanish lifeline
Brown was not the only major addition. Bayern also spent 50 million euros on Ismael Saibari, prising him away from PSV Eindhoven in the same window. For Diaz, the Moroccan international offers something beyond his footballing qualities.
“A good lad, and luckily he speaks Spanish. It is very important to have someone here I can talk to in my own language,” Diaz admitted.
That small detail matters, because for all the on-pitch comfort, Diaz is still wrestling with life off it.
Diaz vs. German: the one battle he’s not winning yet
A year on from swapping Liverpool for Munich, the 29-year-old is settled in almost every way – except one.
“The language is certainly one of the few things I struggle with,” he said. “Adapting to that is not so easy. But otherwise I can't complain about anything. The city is incredible. There is so much you can do here if you have the time. I am very happy here.”
So the football is flowing, the city suits him, the squad has been strengthened. Only German continues to trip him up.
Strong start, sharper Diaz to come?
On the pitch, Bayern have hit their stride early. Five wins and one draw from their first six competitive games underline a strong opening to the campaign. Diaz has chipped in with one goal but knows he has left chances out there in recent outings.
“I am searching for my best version and I will find it soon,” he insisted. “I think that goal will come in the next game.”
That next chance arrives on Friday, when Bayern host Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena before the season pauses for the international break.
Brown’s flexibility, Saibari’s fresh energy, Diaz’s hunger for his “best version” – Bayern already look ominous. If the Colombian’s prediction about his next goal is as accurate as his reading of Brown’s potential, Union have been warned.
