Leeds United Near Melvin Bard Loan as Deadline-Day Scramble Intensifies

Leeds United are on the brink of adding defensive reinforcements, with Nice left-back Melvin Bard heading to Elland Road for a deadline-day medical ahead of an initial loan move.

The deal is structured with an option, not an obligation, to buy. Leeds will pay the French club around one million euros for the season-long loan, with the right to make the transfer permanent for a further five million euros at the end of the campaign.

Bard, 25, is travelling to Yorkshire to finalise the move, as Daniel Farke looks to plug a clear gap in his squad. At present, Gabriel Gudmundsson is the only natural left-sided full-back available, leaving Leeds light in a key area for a promotion push.

The Frenchman’s arrival would immediately ease that strain. It also hands Farke greater tactical flexibility, with proper cover on the flank instead of makeshift solutions and reshuffled back lines.

Attack in Flux

While the defence edges towards resolution, the attack is in flux.

Willy Gnonto is in Florence putting the finishing touches on a switch to Fiorentina, a return to Serie A that Leeds were only prepared to sanction once a suitable replacement was lined up. That safety net has not been easy to secure.

Leeds saw a move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk dramatically snatched away at the last moment, with Tottenham stepping in to hijack the deal. The late twist has left Leeds scrambling to reassess their options in the final hours of the window.

So Bard’s deal now carries extra weight. Defensive depth looks close to sorted. The real question is whether Leeds can match that clarity in the final third before the clock runs out.
