Jon Aramburu has quietly turned himself into one of LaLiga’s standout full-backs. The rest of Europe has started to notice. Now the Premier League’s elite are lining up to take a closer look.
Liverpool and Manchester City are among a clutch of English clubs tracking the Real Sociedad defender, with multiple sides ramping up their scouting of the Venezuela international throughout 2026.
Only 24, Aramburu is a throwback in one sense: he is a defender first. Coaches and scouts have been struck by how reliably he wins his one-on-one duels, how rarely he gets exposed in wide areas, and how disciplined he is without the ball. But he is no stay-at-home full-back. He times his runs, joins attacks with purpose and has shown enough quality in the final third to convince recruitment teams that he can handle the Premier League’s pace.
His versatility sharpens the appeal. Naturally a right-back, Aramburu can also operate on the left, giving managers tactical flexibility and cover across both flanks.
Premier League giants circle
City have already done their homework. As they weigh up long-term solutions at right-back, the champions have been checking a range of options. Malo Gusto at Chelsea and Timo Livramento at Tottenham were among those assessed in the summer. Aramburu was on the same list, and his blend of defensive security and two-sided capability has pushed him firmly into the conversation.
Liverpool are not far behind. The Anfield club have been scouring the full-back market, and internal reports on Aramburu have been described as hugely positive. His profile – aggressive in duels, tactically disciplined, able to switch flanks – fits the type of defender their recruitment department has been prioritising.
The interest does not stop there. Tottenham, Newcastle United, Everton and Fulham all took a look at the Venezuelan over the summer window, adding more weight to the sense that his next move, whenever it comes, is likely to be to England.
That level of attention marks a remarkable rise for a player who came through Deportivo La Guaira, then Real Union, before fighting his way up from Real Sociedad’s B team. At La Real he is now an established, important figure in a side that continues to punch above its financial weight in Spain.
The £50m question
Real Sociedad have protected themselves. Aramburu is tied to the club until 2030, a long-term contract that gives the Basque side a strong hand in any negotiations.
But there is a clear route out. His deal contains a release clause of around £50 million, a number that effectively sets the starting point for any serious suitor. For clubs at the top end of the Premier League, it is a significant fee, but not an outlandish one for a prime-age full-back already proving himself in a major league.
City have already completed their initial checks as they refine their right-back shortlist. Liverpool’s assessments have been similarly thorough, with nothing in their scouting feedback to cool their interest.
If any of those admirers decide to move from monitoring to bidding, they will not be alone. Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton and Fulham have all done enough groundwork to re-enter the race quickly, and competition could escalate fast once one club makes the first concrete move.
For the moment, Aramburu’s focus remains on Real Sociedad and LaLiga.
