Inter Milan Reinforces Stance on Federico Dimarco Amid Barcelona Interest
Inter Milan have sent a clear message after a late transfer-window scare: Federico Dimarco is not for sale. Not now, and, if they get their way, not for a long time.
Barcelona’s late push for the Italy international jolted the Nerazzurri into action. What began as an exploratory idea in the final days of the window – a left-back swap involving Dimarco and Alejandro Balde – never moved beyond talks between the clubs, but it was enough to set off alarms at San Siro.
Those alarms have turned into a contract offensive.
From surprise to acceleration
Dimarco, 28, is currently under contract with Inter until 2027, with an option for a further year. That clause sat untouched all summer. The player noticed.
“I was expecting the club to call me to talk to me after what I did last year,” he admitted recently, making no attempt to hide his surprise that the automatic extension had not been triggered.
Barcelona’s interest changed the tempo. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are now pushing to extend Dimarco’s deal all the way to 2030, locking down one of the most influential full-backs in Europe at the peak of his career.
Key meeting in Madrid
The turning point came not in Milan, but in Madrid.
On the eve of Inter’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, new sporting director Dario Baccin met Dimarco’s agent, Arturo Canales, in the Spanish capital. That summit, reported in Italy, has given fresh momentum to the renewal talks.
The discussions are anchored around Dimarco’s current net salary of €4 million – a significant wage, but one Inter see as fitting for a player widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in the game. The club’s intention is clear: reward him, secure him, and remove any doubt about his future.
Barcelona wait, but options are thin
Barcelona, meanwhile, are watching from a distance.
Hansi Flick has just one recognised left-back in his squad, Alejandro Balde, and the youngster is not currently central to the coach’s plans. That reality pushed Barça to test the waters for Dimarco, whose blend of quality on the ball, tactical maturity and experience makes him an attractive solution for a side trying to stabilise its back line.
For now, though, the Catalans can only monitor how the negotiations unfold. Inter have been rattled once. They do not intend to be caught off guard again.
