Holywell Secures First Point as Caernarfon Climbs to Fourth
Holywell Town finally have something on the board. It took a comeback, late drama and a touch of relief, but their first point of the season arrived at home against fellow promoted side Trefelin.
The visitors, still hunting a first top-flight win of their own, struck first. On the hour, Louis Phillips produced the moment of the night, spotting the keeper off his line and lifting a superb lob from the edge of the area into the net. One touch, one flash of quality, and Holywell were staring at another defeat.
The response came late. With eight minutes left, Harvey Morris pounced to drag the hosts level and breathe some life into a difficult start to the campaign. The goal rescued a point but not their league position; Holywell remain bottom, still searching for that elusive first win.
Clarke punishes old club as Caernarfon climb
Up the coast, Caernarfon Town’s rise continued and it was a familiar face doing the damage to Flint Town United.
At Old Road, Airbus set the early tone for the evening’s other drama. George Peers kept his hot streak going, grabbing his third goal in three games after 20 minutes, finishing from close range after a delivery from Jordan Evans. The lead gave the Wingmakers control, and they tightened their grip straight after the break.
From a swift counter, Oliver Calland finished clinically to notch his first goal for Airbus and double the advantage. The visitors never looked back.
The real statement, though, came from Caernarfon. Struggling Flint, still winless and rooted in 15th, were undone by a striker they know only too well. Former Flint forward Zack Clarke took his season tally to nine with a ruthless brace in a 3-0 win that pushed Caernarfon up to fourth.
Clarke struck first in first-half stoppage time, a goal that changed the mood completely just before the interval. Seven minutes into the second half, he was at it again, adding his second of the night and draining what remained of Flint’s resistance.
With Flint reeling, Osian Evans continued his own prolific run, adding Caernarfon’s third to complete a commanding victory and deepen the home side’s early-season problems.
Cambrian’s comeback and a missed chance at Cyncoed
In the capital, Cardiff Met looked to be cruising. By the time the clock ticked into first-half stoppage time at Cyncoed, the students had their noses in front thanks to Spencer Dymond-Hall, whose well-timed header gave the hosts a deserved lead.
When Sam Jones doubled that advantage early in the second half, the game seemed to be slipping away from Cambrian United. Two goals down, away from home, and under pressure.
They refused to fold. Seven minutes after Jones’ strike, Alex John pulled one back to spark belief in the Cambrian ranks. The visitors grew, tackles started to bite, and the tide began to turn.
The pressure told. Liam Williams’ side found their equaliser through Harrison Bright, who drilled in from the edge of the area to complete the comeback and stun the home support.
Cardiff Met still had the chance to snatch all three points. Late on, they won a penalty, the perfect opportunity to reclaim control of a wild contest. CJ Craven stepped up, but the spot-kick went begging, and with it the win.
By the final whistle, Cambrian had their point, Holywell had their first foothold of the season, Caernarfon were sitting pretty in fourth, and Flint and Trefelin were left to wonder how quickly their fortunes can turn before the table starts to harden.
