Eduardo Camavinga's Uncertain Future at Real Madrid
Eduardo Camavinga’s Real Madrid future, once painted in permanent ink, suddenly looks written in pencil.
According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old is no longer viewed as “untouchable” under new manager José Mourinho, a sharp shift for a player signed in 2021 as one of the pillars of Madrid’s next era.
From rising star to uncertain status
Camavinga arrived from Stade Rennais for €31 million, a bold investment in a teenager whose blend of energy, aggression and elegance seemed tailor-made for the Bernabéu. For a time, it worked. He grew into a regular presence, a symbol of Madrid’s generational handover.
This season has cut across that storyline.
As Real Madrid have struggled collectively, Camavinga’s own form has sagged. Not a brief wobble, but a sustained dip that has stripped him of rhythm and confidence. The consequences have gone beyond club level.
Once a fixture in Didier Deschamps’ France squad, Camavinga has slipped out of the picture entirely. The midfielder, capped 29 times with two goals for Les Bleus, did not make what is expected to be Deschamps’ final FIFA World Cup squad. For a player of his trajectory, that is a jarring marker of how far and how fast things have turned.
Mourinho’s stance and Madrid’s position
Mourinho’s arrival has only sharpened the questions. The Portuguese coach is not placing Camavinga in the protected category. The club, The Athletic reports, are ready to listen to offers this summer.
That does not mean Madrid are pushing him out of the door, but the message is clear: a serious bid will not be ignored. In a squad heavy with midfield talent and in need of renewal in other areas, Camavinga has moved from long-term lock to potential asset.
The player sees it differently.
By all accounts, Camavinga is desperate to stay at the Bernabéu, to fight for his place and recover the level that made him one of Europe’s most coveted young midfielders. At 23, he does not view Madrid as a chapter to close, but as the stage on which he still intends to prove himself.
Inter circle as opportunity knocks
That tension between club and player has drawn attention from Italy. La Corriere dello Sport reports that Serie A champions Inter Milan have already made an enquiry about his availability, sensing a rare opening in a market where players of Camavinga’s profile rarely come up for discussion.
Inter’s interest underlines his enduring reputation. A difficult season has not erased the memory of his versatility, his capacity to cover ground, break lines and play across several midfield roles. For a side that thrives on intensity and control, the fit is obvious.
For now, though, the situation is delicately poised.
Real Madrid are prepared to listen.
Camavinga, at least for the moment, is not prepared to leave.
