Declan Rice Withdraws from England Duty Ahead of UEFA Nations League

Declan Rice has withdrawn from England duty, one of five players to pull out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of a demanding UEFA Nations League schedule.

The Arsenal midfielder, a cornerstone of England’s recent success, will miss the upcoming fixtures after what has been described as a load-management decision, according to English newspaper “The Sun”. He is joined on the absentee list by Newcastle’s Tino Livramento, Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer and Manchester United pair Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford, all sidelined with injury issues.

It leaves Tuchel’s plans reshaped just days before England’s latest international run. The response was swift. James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White have been drafted in as late call-ups and are expected to report to St George’s Park on Tuesday to link up with the rest of the squad.

The schedule offers no breathing space. England host Spain at Wembley on Saturday in what should be a stern examination of Tuchel’s evolving side. Then comes a trip to Prague to face the Czech Republic on Tuesday, the first of two meetings with the Czechs in this Nations League campaign.

Rice’s absence carries particular weight.
