Camavinga's Future: Real Madrid's Reluctant Sale Amidst Midfield Competition
Eduardo Camavinga walked into Real Madrid as a symbol of the future. This summer, he might just become the price of the present.
With Jose Mourinho pushing for a new midfielder, Madrid are preparing for at least one major departure in the middle of the pitch. Inside Valdebebas, one name keeps surfacing when the conversation turns to sales and sacrifice: Camavinga.
He is 23, supremely gifted, and coming off another season that did not quite match the expectations that followed his arrival. The flashes were there, the energy too, but not the step up that would have cemented him as untouchable. At one stage he even slipped behind Thiago Pitarch in Mourinho’s pecking order, a detail that would have been unthinkable when he first pulled on the white shirt.
That dip has not scared off Europe’s elite. Quite the opposite.
PSG, United, Juventus circle
Paris Saint-Germain have been tracking Camavinga with intent, sensing an opportunity to bring the French international back home. A player raised in Ligue 1, technically polished and tactically flexible, fits neatly into their long-term midfield rebuild.
Now Manchester United have joined the chase. According to journalist Miguel Serrano, the Premier League club have already made contact to understand Camavinga’s situation and the conditions for a deal.
United’s need is obvious. Casemiro has gone, Manuel Ugarte is expected to follow, and the core of their midfield is being torn down and rebuilt. Aurelien Tchouameni has admirers at Old Trafford, but the focus has broadened. Camavinga, younger and potentially available, has moved firmly onto their radar.
They are not alone. Juventus have also asked about the player, testing the water as they look for a dynamic presence to refresh their own midfield.
Three giants. One unsettled role in Madrid. The market has spotted the opening.
Madrid name their price – but Camavinga digs in
Inside Real Madrid, the stance is clear. Camavinga is not on the “untouchable” list. The club are open to offers.
A price has even been set: €60 million. For a 23-year-old with Champions League and La Liga experience, that figure will not scare off Manchester United, PSG or Juventus. All three have the financial power to move quickly if Madrid give the green light.
Yet the player himself is not pushing for the exit.
Despite a season of frustration, reduced prominence and that spell behind Pitarch, Camavinga has shown no desire to walk away from the Santiago Bernabeu. He wants to stay, fight, and claw his way back into Mourinho’s plans. For him, Madrid is not a stepping stone; it is the stage he still believes he can own.
That determination complicates the equation. Madrid may be willing to sell, the market may be ready to buy, but the midfielder is not agitating for a transfer.
A fluid situation with one likely sacrifice
For now, everything hangs on one key decision: whether Real Madrid land the new midfielder Mourinho is pushing for.
If a fresh face arrives in that department, someone will have to make way. Wages, squad balance, minutes – all of it will force a choice. In that scenario, Camavinga stands out as the most expendable of the current group: valuable enough to command a strong fee, but not protected by “untouchable” status.
Should that domino fall, the race will start in earnest. Manchester United, Juventus and PSG are already in position, already briefed on the numbers, already aware that €60 million will not be a barrier.
For Camavinga, it leaves a stark question hanging over the summer: will his future be defined by his own resolve to stay, or by Madrid’s need to move him on to fund the next evolution of Mourinho’s midfield?
