"It's something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad at the moment and the way we're managing that kind of situation individually with all the players – they have some personal situations," Arteta said.

He made it clear he has spoken directly with Jesus.

"Yes, for sure (he's spoken to Jesus). Those conversations go both ways, but I'm very satisfied with how these conversations went because I know what is in each other's hearts.

"The words that come through in those conversations make me really happy. It's inevitable at some point you need to have certain discussions and say certain things that sometimes are tough."

The message: delicate, honest talks are happening, and the club are handling Jesus’ situation on a case-by-case basis.

Earlier in the month, the path seemed to be clearing. Fenerbahce agreed a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Napoli, a crucial outgoing that needed to happen before the Italian side could fully commit to a move for Jesus.

That deal sparked optimism around a potential chain reaction. One striker out, another in.

Since then, the pace has dropped. Previous reports suggested Jesus himself had been hesitant about a switch to Napoli, and it is still unclear whether his stance has softened as the deadline nears.

From Arsenal’s side, the stakes are obvious. Jesus’ contract runs out next year. This window represents their last realistic opportunity to secure a significant fee, and the club are understood to be pushing to make that happen in these final days.
