Burnley Still Winless Under Nicky Hayen After Costly Errors

Burnley’s search for a first league win under Nicky Hayen goes on, and this one will sting. Not because Swansea City carved them apart for 90 minutes, but because the Clarets repeatedly did the damage themselves.

Two lapses in the first half opened the door for the hosts. Adam Idah struck first, Moussa Yeo followed, and by the interval Burnley were staring at a 2-0 deficit that felt entirely avoidable.

Hayen cut a frustrated figure afterwards, his assessment blunt. His side had started well, he argued, matching Swansea and creating chances of their own. The numbers backed him up: Burnley fashioned opportunities, and the Swansea goalkeeper was the busier of the two. The scoreboard told a different story.

Those individual mistakes – the ones Hayen has seen too often already this season – turned a balanced opening into a mountain to climb.

Burnley did at least respond. They came out after the break with intent, snapping into challenges, pushing higher, forcing Swansea back. The pressure brought a lifeline when Largie Ramazani struck before the hour, a goal that briefly shifted the mood and gave the visitors a foothold.

For a spell, Burnley had what Hayen craves: momentum. They pressed, they probed, they believed.

Then it slipped away again.

Just as in recent weeks, that fragile control evaporated. One more costly moment, one more lapse, and Swansea punished them. Zan Vipotnik restored the two-goal cushion, and with it, the air went out of Burnley’s fight. At 3-1, the contest felt settled long before the final whistle.

Hayen didn’t hide from the reality. His team, he admitted, were “not efficient enough” in either box. They created but didn’t take enough. They gifted chances and were punished ruthlessly.

The table is just as unforgiving. Seven Championship games into Hayen’s reign, Burnley sit bottom, still without a win, their margin for early-season patience shrinking by the week.

The performance in patches offered something to cling to. The result, and the manner of it, offered another warning. How long can Burnley live with this many self-inflicted wounds?
