Barcelona Faces RFEF Probe Over Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez Complaint

FC Barcelona’s pursuit of Julián Álvarez has moved from the back rooms of the transfer market into the corridors of Spanish football’s authorities.

According to SPORT, the club have now been formally notified that Atlético Madrid’s complaint over their approach for the Argentine striker has triggered disciplinary proceedings at the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Barcelona have been handed a deadline to present their defence.

At the heart of the case is a familiar accusation in modern football: that Barça held talks with a player tied to a long-term contract. Álvarez is bound to Atlético until 2030, a deal the Madrid club see as a clear line in the sand.

Barcelona build their legal wall

The RFEF’s notification confirms that a formal case is open. From that moment, the clock started ticking in Barcelona’s legal department.

Club lawyers are already dissecting Atlético’s complaint and preparing a detailed response. The strategy is straightforward: defend the process, question the substance of the accusations, and avoid any hint that Barcelona acted in the shadows.
