Barcelona Targets Karim Adeyemi for Summer Rebuild

Barcelona are moving with rare clarity this summer, and the next big swing in their rebuild has a name: Karim Adeyemi.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has given the green light to a long-term move to Camp Nou, with Sky Sport reporting that a verbal agreement is already in place. For Barcelona, that removes the biggest variable. The player wants the move. Now it’s down to the clubs to agree a fee.

Dortmund’s stance is firm. Adeyemi is valued at around €40 million as he approaches the final stretch of his contract, and BVB know exactly what they have on their hands: one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous wide forwards, still young, still with resale value, but edging closer to a point where his price will only go one way. His decision to look elsewhere has accelerated the process. Dortmund cannot afford to watch another key asset run his deal down and leave for less next summer.

At Barcelona, the driving force behind this push is Hansi Flick. The new coach knows Adeyemi well from their time together with the German national team and sees him not just as a signing, but as a tactical weapon. Flick’s football lives on aggression without the ball and direct running with it. Adeyemi offers both in abundance.

His blistering pace, his willingness to attack space, and his ability to operate across the front line tick multiple boxes. In a squad already boasting the precocious Lamine Yamal and the unpredictable Raphinha, Adeyemi would add a different gear: a runner who can stretch games vertically, open lanes for others, and turn broken phases into chances within seconds.

This is not a transfer built in a week. Jorge Mendes, who represents Adeyemi, has been circling this possibility for some time. The super-agent has offered the winger to Barcelona on several previous occasions, but the club’s well-documented financial issues kept every conversation at arm’s length. Now, with a more structured, staged approach to their market work, the deal has finally gathered real momentum.

The move for Adeyemi, though, is only one part of a broader attacking overhaul.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has made it clear: Barcelona’s pursuit of a winger does not close the door on a new number nine. Julian Alvarez remains the primary target to lead the line, a long-standing objective dating back to May. The idea inside the club is simple – a clinical, all-round centre-forward to grow with this core and provide relentless competition in the box.

That dual push – Adeyemi out wide, Alvarez through the middle – would represent a dramatic reshaping of Barcelona’s forward line. But it also collides head-on with reality: the wage bill and the transfer budget still need strict management.

To bridge the gap to Dortmund’s €40m valuation, Barcelona are already working on creative solutions. Straight cash is difficult. Part-exchange is not. Several fringe or emerging players have been floated as potential makeweights to soften the financial hit and tempt BVB into doing business.

• Among the names mentioned are Roony Bardghji and Guille Fernandez. Bardghji arrived with significant expectations but has grown increasingly frustrated by a lack of consistent first-team minutes. For a player of his age and profile, another year on the fringes is not an attractive prospect. A move to Dortmund, a club renowned for trusting and developing young talent, could reset his trajectory.
• Fernandez, meanwhile, is not an unknown quantity in Germany. Dortmund have tracked him for some time, seeing in him the kind of technical and tactical upside they regularly bet on. Including a player they already admire would make sporting sense for BVB and ease the financial strain on Barcelona.

So the lines are drawn. Barcelona have the coach pushing hard, the player on board, and the agent smoothing the path. Dortmund have the leverage of a contract still in play and a valuation they believe reflects Adeyemi’s status.

If the numbers can be made to work, Flick could soon have a front line reshaped in his image – and a very different Barcelona hurtling into the new season.
