Youri Tielemans is on the brink of becoming Manchester United’s latest midfield pillar, with the Belgian due in the city within the next 24 hours to undergo his medical as Michael Carrick’s overhaul gathers serious pace.
What began as a whisper on Monday morning quickly hardened into a decisive move. United identified an opening and, this time, didn’t hesitate. Tielemans’ departure will almost certainly force them into the market, particularly given the long-term absence of his Belgium team-mate, who suffered an ACL rupture at the World Cup. Across five appearances, he scored twice – both goals coming against Senegal in the last-32 – and impressed with his authority in possession throughout the group stage and again against the United States in the last-16. It was the sort of tournament that reinforces a reputation rather than builds one from scratch: a player already known for big moments delivering on a grand stage once more.
