Vinicius Junior Contract Talks Resume Amid Arsenal Interest
The biggest clubs in England can smell uncertainty in Madrid, and Arsenal are right in the thick of it.
Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior are preparing to reopen contract talks after Brazil’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup, with the winger in no rush to commit his long-term future to the Bernabeu. His current deal runs until 2027, but the message from the Spanish giants is blunt: sign, or be sold.
TEAMtalk report that discussions between Madrid and the 25-year-old stalled during last season and were eventually parked. Now they are set to resume, under a far harsher spotlight. Florentino Perez is understood to be determined not to let one of his crown jewels drift towards a free transfer, even if that means cashing in far earlier than anyone expected.
Madrid have put a substantial offer on the table, proposing to lift Vinicius’s basic wage from around £350,000 per week to beyond £400,000. His camp, though, are said to be pushing closer to the £500,000-per-week bracket. That gap is where the sharks are circling.
Arsenal among the elite suitors
Arsenal are one of five Premier League clubs who have asked to be kept fully briefed on the situation. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are also watching closely, prepared to move if Madrid decide to draw a line under the stand-off and list the Brazilian.
For Arsenal, the timing is intriguing. Mikel Arteta’s side, hardened by back-to-back title races, are edging towards the bracket of Europe’s superclubs but still lack a true global superstar in attack. Vinicius, with his explosive pace, relentless directness and big-game pedigree, would change that overnight.
He would walk straight into the left flank at the Emirates, reshaping an already slick front line into something far more menacing. The idea of the Brazilian tormenting full-backs in north London will not be lost on a hierarchy already being linked with another major Brazilian arrival: a supposed agreement to sign Newcastle United’s midfield lynchpin Bruno Guimaraes.
If both deals ever came off, Arsenal’s spine would take on a very different, very South American edge.
A restless superstar at his peak
By his own lofty standards, Vinicius’s last club campaign was described as “steady” rather than spectacular, but the numbers remain elite: 23 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. Even in a season where Los Blancos surrendered the La Liga title to arch-rivals Barcelona, he remained one of the most decisive players on the continent.
The summer has not been kind to him on the international front. Brazil crashed out of the 2026 World Cup in the round of 16, dumped out by Erling Haaland’s dark horses Norway. That early exit has accelerated the timeline for contract talks and, with it, the swirl of speculation over his next move.
Vinicius has been clear that he is in “no hurry” to sign fresh terms. Madrid, under Perez, very much are.
Bayern and Saudi money wait in the wings
England is not his only potential destination. Bayern Munich are also credited with strong interest, one of the few clubs in Europe with both the financial muscle and the sporting stature to tempt a player of Vinicius’s calibre away from Madrid.
Then comes the wildcard: the Saudi Pro League. The former Flamengo prodigy would reportedly double his salary if he chose to leave the European stage for the Gulf. The money is extreme, the project ambitious, and the league’s powerbrokers have made no secret of their admiration for players at his level.
Yet the sense remains that Vinicius is still in the thick of his prime, still burning to define his legacy in the Champions League, not away from it.
For now, everything hinges on those renewed talks in Madrid. If the gap in expectations proves too wide, Arsenal and the rest of England’s elite will not need a second invitation.
