Troy Parrott Shines in Real Betis Victory Over Getafe
Troy Parrott’s early-season surge with Real Betis gathered more momentum on Thursday night, as the Ireland striker marked his return to the starting XI with a sharp, influential display in a 1-0 win over Getafe.
Back in from the start after remaining on the bench for Monday’s 2-1 victory away to Villarreal, the 24-year-old led the line for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in Seville, making just his third La Liga start for the club. He wasted no time making his presence felt.

Getafe, 15th in the table at kick-off, responded by retreating even deeper after the interval, content to soak up pressure and gamble on a late surge. Betis, chasing a second goal to kill the contest, found the spaces shrinking. Shots were blocked, crosses cleared, frustration growing in the stands.
Pellegrini moved first. Just after the hour, he reshaped his attack, withdrawing Parrott, Isco and Abde in search of fresh legs and a different angle of threat. The change didn’t bring the extra goal, but Betis’ earlier work proved enough.
Getafe finally threw bodies forward in the closing stages, forcing the hosts to defend their own box and ride out a late push. Betis stood firm. When the final whistle went, the single goal – crafted by Parrott and finished by Abde – carried them over the line.
The victory lifts Betis up to third in La Liga, level on 15 points with second-placed Real Madrid, separated only by goal difference. Barcelona remain perfect at the summit with six wins from six and 18 points on the board.
For Parrott, it extends an impressive start to life in green and white. A fortnight ago he came off the bench at Estadio La Cartuja to score the winner against Real Madrid, handing José Mourinho’s side their first defeat of the season. Now he has added a decisive assist to that statement goal.
