Sacha Boey's Bayern Future: Surprise Stay in Munich

Sacha Boey’s Bayern future has swung back towards a surprise stay in Munich after the collapse of a summer move, sporting director Christoph Freund has admitted.

Bayern had been prepared to part ways with the 25-year-old right-back in this window, but the German market shut without a deal being struck. With that, the tone around Boey’s situation changed.

“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund told reporters on Friday, openly acknowledging the shift in Bayern’s plans.

Boey, who has struggled for rhythm since arriving in January, has at least impressed the club with his professionalism during an uncertain spell.

“He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” Freund said, underlining that Bayern had initially mapped out another route for the Frenchman.

Attention now turns to the remaining open transfer windows across Europe and beyond. As long as those markets remain active, the possibility of a late move technically survives. But Bayern’s sporting boss made it clear what happens if no offer lands.

“When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad,” Freund stated.

For Boey, that could mean an unexpected second chance to carve out a role in Munich rather than becoming one of this summer’s departures.
